My Grandfather's Sweater

I have a vague memory of a smoky cardigan, worn and nubbly that my grandfather had on in the evenings while he was watching television ---many years ago---and I don't know how this image came to my mind. Unfortunately it has been a while since I have thought of him.

I was tangled in a self spinathon last night and had a single ply of corriedale and merino in naturals that I had spun quite fine (for me) I knew I was going to have to ply it to stabilize it, but rather than ply it onto itself decided to treat myself with a fine silk--kid mohair blend in tan.

Note ----- I dip in and out of felting using recycled sweaters and have a mountain of them in the studio-----one came to mind and I dug it out of the pile.

Cutting into little strips, I created quite a pile of them and strung them onto the silk and then spun everything together.

Rather than my usual approach to spinning --which is a bit visceral--- I took my time, slowed down time for myself and let myself get lost in some beautiful memories. Welcome to "My Grandfather's Sweater".

I am on a road trip today with my peeps. Four fibre fanatics packed into one station wagon, with all their projects. A spinner-knitter(Toni), a weaver-knitter (Judy), a master of all trades and teacher(Pearl) and me....

Our destination is a little knit cafe in Squamish that sells amazing coffee and ice cream and has big comfortable couches for knitting. We may also knit under "The Chief", although it doesn't look like we will have much sun today.

Of course there will be laughing, knitting, skirmishes for the sale yarn and a lot of caffeine. There will also be photos and a blog along....Would you like to come, there may be room in the car for at least 2 more.
