Knitting in Nanaimo

Early morning in Nanaimo from the Hotel window, against all weather reports we have a perfect day, sunny and gorgeous. Okay perhaps this did not capture the sun exactly.

I am in the room working on my felted pillow which turned out way better than I expected, but actually may not make it as a jury piece due to time constraints. Yes, I could have worked on it earlier, but it took a while to get the design straight in my mind....

The base fabric was machine knit. I'll save my love/hate knitting machine relationship for another day. Hundreds of rows of stockinette are not meant for hand knitting--at that stage I then become a human machine.

In any case here are some of the base pieces.

Working on the green variagated first, I wanted to incorporate my fern design from the scarf so I chose a nice long bolster pillow form. Here is coverage after the handsewing through the felt....Note to self --next time, sew pillow form together before felting and reduce wrist strain.

The fulling was very even with minimal reshaping after I pulled it out of the machine, any warping came out when I blocked it. But here is where I really got to have some fun and this is probably what will occupy the rest of my day on the drive....Thank God John is the driver, it means I get the entire view without having to drop the hand work....

Clearly the knitting Gods are kind. Here is the pillow as it stands now.
